Screen Detox (“we,” “us,” the “App”) helps a single adult user reduce their own screen time by blocking their own apps during focus sessions. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it, and your choices. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
1. Who we are
Screen Detox is operated by Esslam Mansour. For any privacy question or request, contact legal@screendetox.app.
2. Information we collect
We only collect what the App needs to function for you:
- Account / contact info. When you sign in (with Apple, or with an email one-time code), we receive your email address and an account identifier so we can create and authenticate your account.
- Account identifiers. A user ID for your account and a subscriber ID used to manage your subscription.
- Content you submit. When you request to bypass a block, the text of the “excuse” you write is processed to generate the in-app coach’s verdict, and a record of the interaction is stored in your account.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active “Sergeant Mode” subscription, and related purchase events (handled through Apple and our subscription provider).
- Your app-block selection (Screen Time). The set of apps you choose to block is stored as an opaque token provided by Apple’s Screen Time system. These tokens contain no app names or identifiers we can read — we cannot and do not learn which specific apps you selected. The selection is stored only so your blocks persist and re-apply on your device.
We do not collect advertising identifiers, location, contacts, photos, or analytics about how you use the app. Your Screen Time usage totals (pickups, minutes) are calculated on your device and shown only to you; they are not transmitted to us or anyone else.
3. How we use your information
We use the information above solely to:
- create and secure your account and sign you in;
- apply and persist the app blocks and schedules you set;
- generate the coach’s response to a bypass request you submit;
- provide and restore your subscription;
- respond to your support requests.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling across other services, or any purpose unrelated to operating the App for you.
4. Service providers who process data for us
We share data only with the providers required to run the App, each acting on our behalf:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple (authentication) and the App Store (in-app purchases).
- Supabase — secure database and authentication. Your data is protected by row-level security so that only your authenticated account can access your own records.
- RevenueCat — manages your subscription status. It receives purchase/subscription data only; it does not receive any Screen Time or app-block data.
- Anthropic — when you submit a bypass “excuse,” its text is sent to Anthropic’s API to generate the coach’s verdict. It is used only to produce that response.
These providers are bound to use the data only to provide their service to us. We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Screen Time / Family Controls data
Screen Detox uses Apple’s Family Controls and Screen Time APIs in individual mode — you managing your own device. The apps you choose to block are represented by opaque Apple tokens that carry no readable app identity. We never decode them, never derive app names from them, and never share them with any third party or use them for advertising. Your selection is stored only (a) on your device so our own background components can re-apply your blocks, and (b) as an opaque value in your own account record so it survives reinstall and syncs to your future sessions.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data while your account exists. You can request access to, or deletion of, your data at any time by emailing legal@screendetox.app; we will delete your account data unless we are required to retain limited records (e.g., for a transaction). You can also stop all collection by signing out and removing the App.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit using standard HTTPS/TLS. Access to your stored data is restricted by row-level security tied to your authenticated account, so other users cannot read your records.
8. Children
Screen Detox is intended for adults managing their own devices and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Your rights
Depending on your region (e.g., EU/EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We honor these rights for all users — to exercise them, email legal@screendetox.app. We do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and post the revised version at this URL. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
